TRANSCRIPT:

These gas station drugs that we're talking about today started kind of back in the day with the spices. Remember those? They were in the gas station.  So all the celebrities were using these, and there's a way to work around drug screens, and it was called Spice or Mr. Nice Guy, Scooby Snacks, K2. And they were marketed as you know, an alternative to marijuana that got you the same high and didn't test positive for marijuana.

They're' sold in the stores under a label that says, "Not for human consumption." And so since you wrote, "Not for human consumption" on there, guess who doesn't have to regulate it? The FDA.

No one can regulate it. It's unregulated. And so it's coming into the country unregulated, and people are quickly passing it along because nothing spreads faster than information about drugs and availability in the addicted world. You know? it's quick.

So it got out there that this is the new thing, and everybody was accessing Spice. Well, eventually we came through lots of research. Kevin actually, like a very big nerd, dove down into the guy who was researching this and created these and then also created the drug screen for it.

JWH. John W. Huffman. And that's how we found out this is a substance that we should be worried about. And so then it was pulled. Everybody was trying to regulate that.

Well, when there's a will, there's a way. More substances came to be that they were selling in these gas stations, particularly marked as not for human consumption, and therefore unregulated.
